Application of Subject Specific Models for Mapping Brain Function with Diffuse Optical Tomography
نویسندگان
چکیده
The application of diffuse optical tomography (DOT) methods for neuroimaging of humans is challenging due to the geometry of each individual subject and light level constraints. A high density imaging array system has been developed and used to demonstrate the possibility of true tomographic reconstruction of cortical activity within the adult subjects which are consistent with studies using functional MRI and positron-emission tomography. This work demonstrates the benefits of using subject specific models for image reconstruction and investigates depth related information available from the increased number of tomographic measurements. 2010 Optical Society of America OCIS codes: 110.6955 (Tomographic imaging), 100.6950 (Tomographic image processing), 170.2655 (Functional monitoring and imaging), 170.3660 (Light propagation in tissues)

Resting-state functional connectivity in the human brain revealed with diffuse optical tomography
Mapping resting-state networks allows insight into the brain's functional architecture and physiology and has rapidly become important in contemporary neuroscience research. Diffuse optical tomography (DOT) is an emerging functional neuroimaging technique with the advantages, relative to functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), of portability and the ability to simultaneously measure both ...
متن کاملQuantitative evaluation of atlas-based high-density diffuse optical tomography for imaging of the human visual cortex.
Image recovery in diffuse optical tomography (DOT) of the human brain often relies on accurate models of light propagation within the head. In the absence of subject specific models for image reconstruction, the use of atlas based models are showing strong promise. Although there exists some understanding in the use of some limited rigid model registrations in DOT, there has been a lack of a de...
متن کاملAnatomical atlas-guided diffuse optical tomography of brain activation
We describe a neuroimaging protocol that utilizes an anatomical atlas of the human head to guide diffuse optical tomography of human brain activation. The protocol is demonstrated by imaging the hemodynamic response to median-nerve stimulation in three healthy subjects, and comparing the images obtained using a head atlas with the images obtained using the subject-specific head anatomy. The res...

Developing diffuse optical tomography methods for neuroimaging of humans is challenging due geometry and light level constraints. Analysis of multi-distant high-density imaging arrays shows the feasibility of imaging up to 20 mm depth within the adult brain. ©2008 Optical Society of America OCIS codes: (170.6960) Tomography; (170.2655) Functional monitoring and imaging; (330.4270) Vision system...
متن کاملValidating atlas-guided DOT: A comparison of diffuse optical tomography informed by atlas and subject-specific anatomies
We describe the validation of an anatomical brain atlas approach to the analysis of diffuse optical tomography (DOT). Using MRI data from 32 subjects, we compare the diffuse optical images of simulated cortical activation reconstructed using a registered atlas with those obtained using a subject's true anatomy. The error in localization of the simulated cortical activations when using a registe...
